Jim Semon Impact Award

In 2007, Anthony presented the inaugural Jim Semon "Impact" Award to an adult who epitomizes all that Jim Semon meant to the life of Anthony. When Anthony was six years old, Jim, then the Director of Parks and Recreation in Ontario, California, gave Anthony his first baseball glove. At that time, little did Jim know that he was giving so much more to Anthony. Not having a solid male role model, Anthony latched onto Jim. Ultimately, Jim became Anthony's high school baseball coach and continued to provide the guidance needed to succeed in life.

Last year, Anthony recognized Jim for his unconditional and everlasting support. He was presented with a commemorative ring from Heileman Jewelers. At The Spirit of '78 Hall of Fame Dinner, Anthony recognized Ben Huffine. Ben was director and member of CityCURE for 17 years. He would give food, clothing and shelter when you needed it. He helped individuals in Over-the-Rhine to find Christ, get a job, or move to a better place to live. When Ben decided to move his family (wife Terri shown above accepting the award on behalf of Ben) to Grayson, Kentucky, he kept on giving by leading Sunday school classes and working with the youth of his church. Tragically, Ben died at the age of 52 in December of 2004. He is loved and missed by many.

At the 2008 Celebre Los Nños Hall of Fame Dinner, Anthony recognized Paul Brondhaver (shown above). SSG Paul Brondhaver, a New Richmond native has served his country for over 19 years in the United States Army. While being a part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, his tour ended early when his combat patrol was attacked and a rocket propelled grenade exploded near his Humvee. Paul works full time for the Cincinnati Recreation Commission and teaches school part-time. He is also active with the American Red Cross, as Instructor in Lifeguarding and Health and Safety for 20 years, and is a member of the First Baptist Church in Glen Este. Paul is deeply respected by the entire community and clearly devotes his life to serving others.
